No Hockey In Illinois Until 2021?

In what is expected to be the first of a few, the State of Illinois and Governor J.B. Pritzker have essentially killed all hockey in Illinois until the Spring of 2021.

In a wide sweeping, all encompassing executive order, Governor Pritzker announced on Wednesday guidance for youth and adult recreational sports, including, but not limited to, school-based sports, travel clubs, private leagues and clubs, recreational leagues and centers and park district sports programs.

Upon further investigation Thursday this order does include ALL JUNIOR, AAA, AA, and House league hockey. For now.

I say for now because someone is going to challenge this order more than likely.

Practices will be allowed, but no contact and no games. No exceptions.

So who is going to be the first to challenge the Governor with a lawsuit?

The order does not take effect until August 15, so technically it has not effected anyone. Meaning that August 15, is likely the first day that a lawsuit could be filed.

Since August 15 is a Saturday, it really means August 17th is the first date an action could be filed. By the time a hearing is scheduled, a decision made, and possible appeal is filed, the hockey season is delayed at the very least.

Illinois is likely not the last State to issue such an order. Michigan could be next.

With escalating numbers of COVID infections, and NCAA programs shutting down voluntary spring work outs due to infections, sources within Michigan Government are indicating it is an option being explored.

Other States with rising numbers could also see similar orders from their Governors. With rising numbers Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee could also be in line after receiving a warning from Washington on escalating numbers.

All because people don’t want to be inconvenienced by wearing a mask and social distancing.

Meanwhile multiple sources in the medical community in New York are reporting preparations for a virus return next month as it looks to be making a circle through the country.

Anyone want to start wearing a mask for a little while before its too late to save the season in the United States, or are you so concerned about your personal rights, that your child’s right to play isn’t that important? Or that your neighbor’s rights are not important?

A little inconvenience and this would be over. It’s embarrassing.

Meanwhile I will be taking my clients to Europe.
