NCAA Says Players Can Return To Junior Teams – Player Market Flooded

Some people thought NCAA Hockey was going to be safe. We have been saying for months that it would not be.

Now, the NCAA has said the following in reference to NCAA Hockey players;

“Outside Competition: Current student-athletes whose institutions will not be playing hockey during the fall semester will be permitted to participate in non-collegiate, amateur competition on an outside team during the fall 2020 term (subject to school and conference approval). These student-athletes may compete on an outside team while remaining enrolled in their NCAA institution, which typically would not be allowed.”

This rule change was made along with other changes relating to the Recruiting Dead Period currently in place among other rule changes regarding eligibility.

A summary of the changes is available here.

This said, the junior hockey players pool at the USHL, NCDC and NAHL levels just became flooded with high level players who can now return to playing junior hockey.

For those of you who “think” your USHL or Tier II roster spot is secure, guess again.
