Saskatchewan Health Authority Says No To Hockey

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has said “no” to hockey in Saskatchewan.

The SHA stresses that no games can be played at this time, for any level, but registration and tryouts can take place, teams can be formed, and practice is allowed.

Tournaments, out-of-province travel, and games of any kind are not sanctioned by the SHA at this time. This applies to minor, junior, and senior hockey.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League had been preparing for an October 9th start date and that does not seem likely at this point.

How this influences other Provincial Health Authorities is yet to be seen, though Ontario has put a temporary stop to reopening initiative that had been ongoing due to recent spikes in infection numbers.

Saskatchewan teams are also now openly talking about how American born players will not be playing this year unless they are dual citizens.

Saskatchewan has lower infection numbers than Manitoba and it is worth watching as the MJHL hopes to resume play.

Quebec has also seen recent spikes in infections as well.
