The United States Hockey League has lost two members for the 2020-2021 season.
The Cedar Rapids Roughriders have been expected to drop out for the season after the ImOn Arena, was badly damaged during a storm on August 10th. The storm with extremely powerful winds left the Roughriders without an arena to play in.
Madison on the other hand is directly related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Restrictions in Dane County, home to the Madison franchise, limited the Capitols’ ability to host games. Specifically, Madison would not have the ability to play games with fans in the building. That lack of revenue made a season unsustainable for the Capitols. The state of Wisconsin continues to struggle with the pandemic, posting a new one-day high on Thursday with over 2000 reported new cases.
While most of the USHL looks to be moving forward, questions remain for at least one or two more teams ability to play this season.
