With the Saskatchewan Health Authority already publicly saying there will be no competitive hockey for quite some time, the SJHL has allowed its teams to return to practice under the SJHL Return To Play Plan.
One player has now tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on the Melfort Mustangs team.
There are two ways to look at this positive test result.
First, one could assume this is the death nail in the SJHL season. That could be true given the conservative nature of the health officials in Canada.
The second, and the way we would hope Canada and the Health Authorities view this positive test is that the SJHL Return To Play Plan worked as it should.
A positive test was found. Authorities and citizens were notified. The player has been isolated and is being monitored. Exactly as things are planned to take place.
Now, I am sure players and people in contact with the player are being tested. A positive test does not mean more infections from the person who tested positive. So, lets watch for the news out of Saskatchewan over the next few days.
If there are no related infections, my opinion is that the SJHL should be allowed to play. Proof that planning works is a lot more positive result than speculating that a plan will not work.
