COVID Claims 72 Year Old Senior League

The WOAA Senior Hockey League began play in the 1948-1949 season.

1948, just think about that for a second. Think about how the world and the game has changed since 1948.

Seventy Two years of operating is a monumental accomplishment. To have that kind of operational success derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, an invisible, air born contagion, is unbelievable.

Yes, I know this is a Junior Hockey New site. This is a Senior Hockey story. But it’s a hockey story that shows just how seriously things are being taken in Canada.

Any time a league or a team at any level has to be shut down it hurts the game. Taking people off the ice and out of competition, in this game, is simply unnatural for anyone who has ever played.

Lets hope this storied league is back in 2021. Nothing would make me happier than to write about how the league came back from this hiatus.
