Vernal Oilers 4(OT) vs. Vegreville Vipers 3
It was a rematch from yesterday morning’s tilt, and it definitely showed. Vernal Oilers move to 14 wins in a row this season after besting the Vegreville Vipers 4-3 in overtime Tuesday morning.
Luke Parry had himself a hat trick including the game winner, while Artur Aloyan supplemented the win with a goal and an assist. Jackson Cole earns the win on 25 saves.
Cody Anderson registered two goals for Vegreville, and netminder Sam Delaisse did all he could with 33 saves. Although Vernal pulled off the 4-1 win on Monday, it was the Vipers that were driving the play as the second period came to a close;
They came out on Tuesday much like they ended Monday’s game.
The match was penalty-laden as both clubs just couldn’t stay out of the box. Both teams had early power play opportunities but neither resulted in a goal. It wasn’t until 18:06 that the Vipers lit the lamp first with a goal from Cody Anderson.
Anderson’s goal woke up the Oilers who started driving the net more and provoking the Vipers into poor penalties. Sure enough, Artur Aloyan took advantage of coincidental minors and extra ice by scoring 4-on-4 at 14:01 and made it 1-1.
The better performance from the Vipers fizzled out to end the first half. They were able to pot two goals, Anderson’s second of the night at 4:44 and Carson Pewarchuk at 2:45.
Vernal was the more disciplined of the two clubs as the Vipers entertained seven penalties between 7:05 of the first, and 14:22 of the second. The Oilers capitalized on their opponents inability to establish a forecheck due to penalties.
Luke Parry scored twice in the span of one minute from 15:12 to 14:12, including a power play goal to tie the match at three for the Oilers.
Vegreville goes into the holiday break with 23 points (5W-8L-3OTW-2OTL) .
