The American Hockey Academy is excited to announce the launch of their u19 girls full season academy team. Leading the way is head coach James Fitzhenry. James will be joining the AHA effective March 2020
Fitzhenry, a native of New Jersey, got his start in the sport in Unionville, Ontario as a defenseman and was quickly drawn to the position of goalie . He played Varsity Hockey at NCAA Division 1/3 and Baseball NCAA Division 3 at Union College from 1989-1992. He graduated in 1993 with a degree in Political Science and a Minor in United States History. Prior to joining the Dutchmen, he won a New Jersey Prep State Championship in 1986 and earned All-State, All Conference and MVP honors while minding net at Seton Hall Preparatory School and was subsequently named the starting goaltender for Team New Jersey in what is now known as America’s Showcase.
As a member of the Ramapo Jr. B Rangers and the Philadelphia Little Flyers in 1985 and 1986 respectively, Fitzhenry earned invitations to the USNTDP training camp in Plattsburgh, NY and in 1988 Fitzhenry earned the Silver Medal at the Junior B National Championship while playing for the Ramapo JR. B Rangers
Fitzhenry is a USA Hockey CEP Level 4 coach and is currently the Girls U19 and U16 Head Coach as well as the Girls and Goalie director for the Ramapo Saints Youth organization in Monsey, NY.
James is also part of the coaching staff for St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City NJ.
He has over 25 years coaching experience at College, High School and high-level youth hockey including Juniors, in New Jersey and New York.
James coaches to give back to a sport that has given him so much over the course of his life and believes that coaching is all about the players and their development not just on the ice but off the ice as well.
