North Division
Forward: Bryce Bollman, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs
The Monarchs had just one game following their run at the Fall Beantown Classic, but it was a doozy. They defeated the Northern Cyclones 4-3 in overtime, ending a nine-game winning streak for the Cyclones and pulling into a tie with Northern at the top of the North Division standings. Bollman (‘02/Orland Park, Ill.) scored the OT game-winner, and he had also scored his team’s second goal in the third period and assisted on Kodi Dotterer’s tying goal.
Defense: Conor Lally, Boston Advantage
As usual, Lally (‘02/Scarborough, Maine) was the team’s leader on a couple more occasions. Along with leading the team in ice time in a win against the Islanders Hockey Club and a loss to the Twin City Thunder with a 26:58 per game average, he put up a 1-3-4 line over the two games. He improved to 14 points in 16 games, and his 12 assists are good for second in the league among NCDC defensemen. His 14 points are tied for third.
Goaltender: Cameron Carroll, Boston Junior Bruins
The Junior Bruins have not lost in regulation over their last four games going back to late October. Carroll (‘02/Putnam Valley, N.Y.) has been in net for all of those. In the last week alone he picked up a win and helped salvage a shootout loss point, stopping 58 of the 60 shots he saw in both those games for a 1-0-0-1 week and a .967 save percentage. He is 3-1-0-1 on the season.
South Division
Forward: Ryder Nienhuis, Mercer Chiefs
Nienhuis posted a goal and an assist to help the Chiefs during their three-game sweep of Utica, but he did even more than that for Coach Rob Broderick. Along with leading the forwards in ice time (21:04 per game) over the weekend, he also fired nine total shots on goal, put up three hits, blocked three shots and also led all forwards in shorthanded time (8:02).
Defense: Sean Melso, Jersey Hitmen
With a goal and an assist against both the Connecticut Jr. Rangers and the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders, Melso tied for the all-time NCDC lead in scoring by a defenseman with 88 career points, tying former Hitman and current Dartmouth College Captain Tanner Palocsik. He led his team in ice time (23:24 per game), fired the second most shots on goal (11) and tied for the team lead in blocked shots with three in the two games.
Goaltender: J.J. Cataldo, Jersey Hitmen
Another weekend, another shutout for the undisputed league leader in goaltending categories. He stopped all 45 saves the Connecticut Jr. Rangers fired at him on the road, and then helped his team beat the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 3-2 in overtime with a 29-save performance. He now has seven shutouts here in 2022-23, which ties the single season record set by former Hitman Damon Beaver in 2020-21.
