NCDC 2023-24 Players Of The Week: Atlantic Division

Forward: Ty Broad, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders

The recently-named captain of the defending Dineen Cup Champion P.A.L. Jr. Islanders put together an outstanding opening weekend, putting up three goals and three assists for six points. He scored the first shorthanded goal of the season and added three assists in their opening 9-2 victory against the WBS Knights. He also scored two more goals in the team’s back-and-forth 6-5 shootout loss in Game 2 of their series with the Knights.

Defense: Coleson Hanrahan, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders

The ‘05 veteran of the Dineen Cup Champion Jr. Isles is back and has stepped right back into his outstanding two-way game. Along with four assists, tops among Atlantic defensemen, he was praised by Coach Mike Marcou for his defensive play and leadership, being an assistant captain.

Goaltender: Chace Hale, Rockets Hockey Club

Hale (‘03/Pittsburgh, Pa.) put together a fantastic first weekend by sweeping the Jersey Hitmen, starting out with a 40-save shutout on Sept. 22 in a 3-0 win. The next day, he stopped 36 of 39 to help the Rockets beat the Hitmen on their home ice, 4-3. He was one of only three goalies to stand at 2-0 so far on the season.

Rookie: Wilmer Brundin, Connecticut Jr. Rangers

Brundin (‘04/Sweden) is brand new to North American hockey this year, and he passed his first couple tests at the Tier II level with flying colors. He stopped 60 of 62 shots in his NCDC debut against the Mercer Chiefs on Saturday, and then followed it up with 46 saves on 48 shots on Sunday to stand as one of the three 2-0 goalies in the league. His .964 is best among those with multiple games played, as well.

(Rookie: Player new to Tier II hockey; 2004 birth year or younger).
