Week of Jan. 18, 2024

Games of Jan. 10-16, 2024

Summaries By Joshua Boyd / NCDCHockey.com

Forward: Charlie Zetterqvist, Northern Cyclones

The ‘06 out of Salem, Sweden, had himself a fantastic week, first scoring five goals and one assist in a two-game sweep of the Boston Junior Bruins, including a hat trick made entirely of power play goals on Jan. 11. From there, he also skated in the NCDC Young Guns Game at the annual all-star event. He registered an assist in that event. On the week, he put up a +4 to tie for the team lead, and also led with 17 shots on goal. He improved to 25 points in 28 games for the regular season.

Defense: Thierry Lizotte, Northern Cyclones

Lizotte (‘04/St. Francois, Que.) posted three assists as the Cyclones got the sweep of the Boston Junior Bruins, helping his team remain in the hunt for a playoff spot. Lizotte was the Cyclones’ leader in ice time for the weekend, posting at 22:54 per game, and he also led his team with six blocked shots. For this season, he has eight points in 25 games.

Goaltender: Frank Murphy, Islanders Hockey Club

Another All-Star Game player, Murphy first put up a 29-save shutout victory against the Twin City Thunder, which was his second in a row after also registering 17 saves on Jan. 8. These two shutouts in a row helped the former Toledo Cherokee (USPHL Premier) goaltender set the new season high for shutouts with five. As a bonus, he also made 14 saves on 14 shots at the NCDC All-Star Game on Monday, one of two goaltenders in the game to register a shutout period.

Rookie*: Jack DesRuisseaux, South Shore Kings

The ‘04 from Manchester, N.H., is a newcomer to the Kings and also a Sacred Heart University commit. He led the way on Jan. 14 against Utica with a 2-2-4 line, his first points in the NCDC after coming over from the NAHL. DesRuisseaux played last year and the past couple seasons with Tabor Academy in addition to the GBL Jr. Bruins.
