Former Jersey Hitmen Forward, NCDC Player Of The Year McLinskey Named Holy Cross Male Student-Athlete Of The Year

By Holy Cross Athletics

Former Jersey Hitmen forward and NCDC Player Of The Year (2020-21) Liam McLinskey joined fellow Holy Cross athlete Lauren Drillock of the women’s lacrosse team in being selected as the 2023-2024 winners of the John A. Meegan Athletic Achievement Award. Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Meegan Award goes to one male and one female student-athlete, regardless of class, who attained outstanding achievement during their college careers. This award is given by the club in memory of the late John A. Meegan (Class of 1939), loyal follower of all Crusader sports and esteemed treasurer of the Varsity Club from 1988 to 1996.

McLinskey recorded 47 points on 19 goals and 28 assists in 39 games for the Crusaders this season. Named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year, in addition to being a first team All-Atlantic Hockey selection and a Hobey Baker Award Top 10 finalist, he led the Crusaders in every offensive category, while leading Atlantic Hockey in points, points per game (1.21), and plus/minus (+23). His 13-game point streak from Jan. 13-March 15 was the second-longest such streak in the Crusaders’ Division I era, while his 47 points this season were the seventh-most among eastern players. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, McLinskey has totaled 72 points on 40 goals and 32 assists in 79 games played.

Drillock was named first team All-Patriot League this year, after being a second team selection as a junior. She started all 18 games for the Crusaders at attack this season, tying for second on the team in scoring with 78 points on 43 goals and 35 assists, and ranking second on the school single-season list for assists and third for points. Drillock finished the year ranked third in the Patriot League in assists per game (1.94), eighth in points per game (4.33) and 10th in goals per game (2.39). During her career, she totaled 166 points on 110 goals and 56 assists in 54 games played, to rank sixth all-time at Holy Cross in assists, seventh in points and 12th in goals scored.

Congratulations to Liam McLinskey and Lauren Drillock on their Holy Cross Athletics awards.
