Metro Jets Goalie Muirhead Sets New Premier Career Record For Shutouts

The United States Premier Hockey League congratulates Metro Jets goaltender Austin Muirhead ( ) who set a new career record in shutouts on Monday with a share of the 4-0 shutout victory against the Chicago Cougars on Dec. 9.

In doing so, Muirhead – with two shutouts this season, plus six in 2023-24 and three in 2022-23 – bypassed two other former Metro Jets goaltenders, Will Augustine and Taylor White, who had 10 shutouts apiece. Also setting that mark were former Charlotte Rush goaltender David Battisti and former Boston Junior Bruins goaltender Kyle Myer.

On Monday, Dec. 9, Muirhead made 14 saves on 14 shots from the 10:07 mark of the second period to the final buzzer of the win over the Cougars. Rostislav Efremov had started the game and made 12 saves on 12 shots from the opening of the game to the 10:07 mark of the second.

Muirhead first joined the Jets organization in 2022-23, splitting time between the Metro Jets Development Program (MJDP) and the former Metro Hockey Club (MHC). He spent the entire 2023-24 season with the MJDP and made his Nationals debut in Utica, N.Y. He returned the next year to Utica and the Nationals with MJDP. He has been a full-time Metro Jets goalie this year and is 6-1-0-0 with a .938 save percentage. His career total record is 27-7-1-2 with a .939 save percentage.
