USPHL Expands NCDC to Coast-to-Coast with Addition of North and West Divisions

The United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) is proud to announce the continued national alignment of the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) for the 2026-27 season, highlighted by the addition of the North and West Divisions, the elevation of new member organizations, and key organizational updates across multiple markets.

This strategic initiative further strengthens the NCDC’s position as a truly national — and increasingly international — development league, designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s players while maintaining consistent standards across all regions.

North and West Divisions Elevated to NCDC

Beginning with the 2026-27 season, teams currently competing in the USPHL Premier’s North and West Divisions will transition to the NCDC level. The elevation of these organizations reflects both their competitive success and their commitment to delivering a high-level development experience on and off the ice.

The North Division will include:

  • Hudson Havoc
  • Minnesota Blue Ox
  • Minnesota Squatch
  • Northwest Express
  • Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings

The West Division will feature:

  • Fresno Monsters
  • Lake Tahoe Lakers
  • McCall Smokejumpers
  • Ontario Jr. Reign
  • Ventura Vikings
  • Vernal Oilers

Additional Organizational Updates

Several additional organizational changes will take effect as part of the 2026-27 alignment:

  • Perth-Andover Bearcats — The organization has been sold and will relocate to Perth-Andover, New Brunswick.
  • Syracuse Lightning — The Seattle franchise has been sold and relocated to Syracuse, New York, and will operate with both NCDC and Premier teams.
  • Red Bank Generals — Confirmed as part of the NCDC alignment for the 2026-27 season and joined the New England Conference.
  • Toledo Cherokee — Will elevate to the NCDC and join the Midwest Division.

Performance-Driven Alignment

This alignment is driven by both on-ice performance and the strength of player development within each region.

The West Division has consistently demonstrated its competitive level at the Premier stage, most notably with the Vernal Oilers capturing back-to-back USPHL Premier Championships, including a recent championship matchup against the Fresno Monsters, who advanced as a wild card. These results reinforce the readiness of these organizations to compete at the NCDC level.

In the North, Minnesota and Wisconsin represent one of the deepest and most established player pools in North America. Elevating this region provides a direct pathway for players to remain within their home markets while accessing the NCDC’s elite development platform.

A Truly National Development Model

With the addition of the North and West Divisions, the NCDC continues to establish itself as a coast-to-coast development league, providing players with access to elite opportunities across all major regions.

This move builds on the previously announced alignment of the Midwest, Southeast, and Florida Divisions, further connecting top-performing organizations under a unified Tier II structure. By aligning these regions, the USPHL ensures that players across North America have access to a clearly defined and consistent development pathway — from Premier to NCDC to college hockey — regardless of geography.

League Perspective

“To build a true national development model, you need a strong presence in key hockey markets — Massachusetts, Michigan, and Minnesota — while continuing to invest in high-growth regions like the West,” said USPHL Commissioner Tony Zasowski.

“With the continued evolution of the USPHL, we are now well positioned in those traditional markets while expanding access to players in California and throughout the western United States. Having coached in California, I’ve seen firsthand the strength of hockey in that region, and we’re excited to bring the NCDC pathway to those players.”

Raising the Standard

All NCDC organizations will operate under the league’s enhanced competitive and operational standards — the most comprehensive in USPHL history. These standards include mandatory alignment between NCDC and Premier teams, tuition-free opportunities for players, and elevated expectations for travel, equipment, and overall player experience.

Each organization will operate under a unified development model, ensuring consistency in player advancement, roster construction, and league-wide standards. These initiatives are designed to ensure that every NCDC player benefits from a high-quality and consistent experience across all markets.
