The National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) and its Billings, Montana expansion franchise have officially unveiled the team’s name as the Billings Cattle Punchers, marking a major milestone ahead of the club’s inaugural 2026-27 season.
The Cattle Punchers will take the ice at the brand-new Signal Peak Energy Arena, a state-of-the-art facility featuring modern spectator seating, enhanced amenities, and an additional community ice sheet. The arena, combined with the strength of the Billings market, made the city a prime destination for NCDC expansion and the league’s continued growth into the Mountain West.
The name “Cattle Punchers” reflects the deep-rooted history, toughness, and identity of the region, tying the team directly to the heritage and spirit of Montana. The announcement solidifies the franchise’s brand as it begins building its presence both on and off the ice.
The ownership group, which also operates the Idaho Falls Spud Kings, brings a proven track record of success at the NCDC level. Idaho Falls captured an NCDC National Championship just three years after joining the league, and that same model will be applied in Billings as the organization builds a competitive roster and strong community foundation.
Hockey operations for the Cattle Punchers will be led by Nick Dreyer, General Manager of Hockey Operations, and Steve Haddon, Head Coach. Together, they will oversee player recruitment, development, and the team’s on-ice identity as the franchise prepares for its first season.
The Billings Cattle Punchers will compete in the NCDC’s Mountain Division, joining:
- Idaho Falls Spud Kings
- Ogden Mustangs
- Utah Outliers
- Rock Springs Miners
- Casper Warbirds
- Pueblo Bulls
- Grand Junction River Hawks
With the team name now officially in place, the organization will continue its ramp-up toward the 2026-27 season, including staff additions, player recruitment, and community engagement initiatives.
