Syracuse Sets Inaugural NCDC Coaching Staff

Shattell, Pascarella, and Henry Lead First-Year Club

Baldwinsville, NY – The Syracuse Lightning are proud to announce their inaugural coaching staff for their National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) team. They are led by Head Coach Bob Shattell, Assistant Coach Ryan Pascarella, and General Manager James Henry.

Shattell was an NCAA Assistant Coach at Oswego State since the 2022-23 season. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Coach at SUNY Morrisville for three seasons, and the Head Coach at Le Moyne College, his alma mater, for eight years. A resident of Lysander, NY, Shattell founded the Syracuse-based Salt City Prospects, offering personalized training to youth and collegiate hockey players.

“I am incredibly proud and humbled at the opportunity,” said Shattell. “The Syracuse hockey community holds a special place in my heart, and stepping into this role is an honor. I cannot wait to get to work and bring junior hockey back to Syracuse.”

Pascarella was named an Assistant Coach and Goaltending Coach at SUNY Morrisville ahead of the 2023-24 season. The Lakewood, NY native played college hockey at SUNY Fredonia, compiling a .912 save percentage and collecting 145 career saves. Additionally, he served as a regional scout for the El Paso Rhinos in the North American Hockey League.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to coach Syracuse during its inaugural season,” said Pascarella. “I’m excited to work alongside the organization and coaching staff as we move into the year ahead. I look forward to helping develop players both on and off the ice and preparing them to compete at the next level.”

Henry was a seven-year professional hockey player with the Stockton Thunder (2013-15) and Adirondack Thunder (2016-20). He is the all-time leader in points (230) for the Thunder. Henry, 35, spent three years coaching the Reading Royals, an affiliate of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, and served as their Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for two seasons.

“We are excited to bring junior hockey back to Syracuse and develop players to move forward in their careers,” said Henry. “Our organization looks forward to joining the great hockey community in the area and working together to grow the game. I can’t wait for the season to begin.”
