What does 2.38 goals per game average over the course of a season get you?
If you are a Major Junior hockey team, it can get you a former NHL Head Coach. It can also get you to re-visit old relationships and try to re-create once successful partnerships.
TJHN sources are reporting that Kevin Constantine will be returning to the WHL’s Everett Silvertips. It was only six years ago that Constantine left the Silvertips after a very successful four-year run. Compiling a record of 162-97-17 in his last stint, there is little doubt the Silvertips wouldn’t be interested in re-creating those winning ways.
The contradiction of what GM Garry Davidson says he wants, and what Constantine brings to the table wont be lost on an educated fan base though. Davidson when letting go of Mark Ferner in January said he wanted to see the team compete with a more “up tempo” style. Constantine brings the polar opposite of “up tempo” style.
Known as a defense first Coach, the former goaltender from International Falls Minnesota is someone who has relied on smothering defenses in the NHL. His success in Everett the first time around could also be attributed to a defense first mindset.
Perhaps 2.38 goals per game under Constantine will equal 1.38 goals against average per game? Last time I looked it was the team that got scored on the fewest times is the one winning.
