McPhail’s 3-point night helps Dryden defeat Wisconsin at Showcase

SPOONER, Wis. – Dryden Ice Dogs forward Derek McPhail had a goal and two
assists to help left his side to a 4-2 triumph over the Wisconsin Wilderness
Wednesday night at the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Showcase at
the Spooner Ice House.

The game’s opening tally came off the stick of
Dryden’s Zach Kercz as his harmless looking attempt from the high slot eluded
Zann Anderson in the Wisconsin net.

Justin Gregory pulled the Wilderness
even in dramatic fashion late in the first as he broke free on a partial
breakaway in the final seconds of the stanza and buried his own rebound at 19:58
after being stopped initially to level the proceedings at 1-1.

Wisconsin
took the lead at 14:16 of the middle session when Zach Kraft beat Ice Dogs
starter Shayne Dietl.

Dryden answered back with a couple of markers of
their own late in the session starting with Derek McPhail jamming home a loose
puck to level the proceedings at 15:39.

Dane Feeney then notched his 26th
of the season to put the visitors up 3-2 with a minutes and a half to go in the
period.

An early man advantage marker in the third gave Dryden some
insurance as Chris Sitco wheeled around a Wisconsin defenceman and beat Anderson
with a quick shot on what turned out to be the final tally of the evening at
2:02.

Shots on goal on the night favoured the Wilderness 38-37 with Dietl
picking up the win and Anderson the loss.
