Broncos Hand Over the Reigns

The Humboldt Broncos are extremely pleased to announce that Ryan Smith from Winnipeg, MB will be their new Head Coach and General Manager agreeing to a three year contract.

Ryan has been the Head Coach and General Manager of the Selkirk Steelers for the past 5 seasons in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL).

He is a two time MJHL All-Star Head Coach and last year; Ryan was honored with being named the MJHL Coach of the Year as he led the Steelers to a 1st overall placing in Manitoba and 2nd overall regular season ranking in the Canadian Junior Hockey League.  For these efforts, Ryan was also a runner up for the CJHL Coach of the Year.

He was also an Assistant Coach with Team Canada West for the past two years, helping the Team win a Silver Medal in 2012 and Bronze in 2013.

Team President, Jamie Brockman stated, “This has been a long and arduous process but we could not be more pleased with Ryan accepting our offer to be our new Head Coach and General Manager. We were very impressed with the passion and determination Ryan had exhibited through this entire process.  His resume speaks for itself and we are extremely confident that he will continue providing the community of Humboldt with the strong, exciting Teams that they have become accustomed to.  We are very excited to get the 2014/15 Hockey Season under way.”

Ryan had this to say about joining the Broncos, “I am truly honored to be part of the Broncos Organization.  It is deep in tradition and has been a top club for many years, not just in the SJHL but the entire CJHL.  I am excited to get the season underway.  It is a new team, league and challenge for me and I am confident in the Team that I am inheriting.  Speaking with Assistant Coach, Brayden Klimosko, whom has done a ton of work for the Team this off season, about the players returning and the new recruits, one can’t help but get excited.”

“Dean Brockman is an outstanding Coach and an even better person.  I know he has left some huge shoes to fill and I will do my best to continue on with what he has built and add to it.  These opportunities don’t come along every day and I am so pleased to call myself a Bronco.  I would like to thank the Board for this chance and I anticipate an excellent working relationship.  I am looking forward to being part of the community in Humboldt and getting involved in it.”

Ryan also had this to say about his previous Team, “I would like to thank the Selkirk Steelers for allowing me to lead their Team on the ice the past 5 years.  They provided me a place to grow and learn, for this I thank them.  I enjoyed my time with the Steelers and would like to wish them the best of luck in the future.”

The Community will have an opportunity to meet Ryan at Humboldt Streetfest the afternoon of Saturday, August 23rd as the Broncos will have some kid activities with current Broncos players and an opportunity to “Meet the Coach”.  Come on out and let’s welcome Ryan to this great Community.
