Wow, its been a busy week for the grim reaper that’s for sure. We got stupid people running around from coast to coast and country to country.
In the latest instance of parents who have literally lost their freaking minds when it comes to their kids and junior hockey, police had to be called in after a father went just a little crazy.
The BCHL is an awesome hockey league. Great players, great management, and really good owners. The referee’s are pretty damn good too from what I can see on video and what most people say. But hey, you know how it goes when a call goes the wrong way right? And what I mean by the wrong way is, going the way some one other than the referee thinks it should go.
The father of a Merritt Centennials hockey player could face criminal charges following an altercation with the referees who worked the Centennials game last Friday night against the Penticton Vees. A game the Vee’s won rather easily by a 4 to 1 margin.
The Kamloops man whose name has not been released, is being investigated for uttering threats against the referees as they left the arena.
Now all referee’s have pretty thick skin, and take all they can get from fans and coaches on some nights. So what ever this parent was saying had to go pretty far beyond the abuse these guys take on a regular basis.
The exchange allegedly involved profanities and a threat of physical harm directed at the referees, and was reported to police the following day by the B.C. Hockey League’s director of officiating.
But hey, this moron isn’t alone in the great North West;
Last week, the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association banned five parents from attending their kids’ midget games after the adults hurled abuse at referees and opposing players.
In January, police were called to an arena to investigate a report of a fight in the stands between parents of players on midget teams from Penticton and Salmon Arm.
I got to say, everyone must be pretty impressed with the parenting skills of all of these idiots. Yep, these are examples that prepare young men to represent communities throughout the world and spread good will for the game.
I wonder how embarrassed these kids are? I am sure they would like to tell their parents to stop, but then again they might just threaten the kid if he opens his mouth and makes the right call.
