The NAHL’s Michigan Warriors have been for sale for nearly a year. After losing their lease at Perani Arena in Flint Michigan, it was only a matter of time before the team was sold and relocated.
While no information is available on a potential purchaser yet, TJHN has learned from multiple sources that the Warriors will be relocating to New York.
While several sources are citing that Brooklyn New York is the destination, two sources have also said Jamestown New York is also a candidate.
Jamestown was once the home of the NAHL’s Ironmen. The team, was successful in the player development department and did well in the win and loss column, but attendance was “pitiful” according to players TJHN spoke to.
Brooklyn New York on the other hand, has been very successful with minor pro hockey in the past and is doing very well with their Tier III USPHL franchise.
NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld did make a site visit to Brooklyn recently, and the travel distance from Brooklyn to Johnstown and the Pittsburgh are Iceminers is within reason.
This move may also tie in with a sale negotiation concerning the league operated Iceminers. TJHN will have more information concerning that franchise shortly.
