In what was a shocking move, the KC Mavs Midget AAA hockey team, members of the prestigious Tier 1 Elite League have been disbanded!
Ummmmmm yeah, shocker! Hey, I didn’t think the team was all that good when I saw them a few months ago at a showcase. But I didn’t think they were brutal either and they had some decent young players.
The Kansas City Youth Hockey Association, which new Missouri Mavericks owner Lamar Hunt Jr. recently helped establish, pulled the plug by sending a letter to parents saying;
“We do anticipate that there will be ‘growing pains,’ but we believe that we have the organizational structure in place to address concerns and be dedicated to resolving them in a timely manner,” Hunt wrote. “The goal is to get kids on the ice at the appropriate playing levels and in the leagues that work for them so that they can have a great experience playing hockey and be part of what we hope is a great brand.”
Hey Lamar, the Tier 1 Elite League is one of the top leagues in North America you bone head!
Get kids to the appropriate level? Leagues that work for them? Yeah, well you must not know that before this was the KC Mavs Elite team, they were the Russell Stover AAA team, yeah that team who regularly moved players up to the USHL, NAHL and NCAA ranks.
The problem they are citing is that the program doesn’t produce the volume of players that Honeybaked, or Pittsburgh Pens Elite, or other powerhouses from Michigan and Chicago. Hey, I got a little news for you brain surgeons in Kansas City…….
You’re in Kansas City!!!! You will never be like the other hockey hotbeds! And you just screwed yourself out of the only reason scouts had to even come to Kansas City. Yep, not to mention the negative economic impact of losing a team like this. All the hotel nights unsold. All the meals not purchased, and all those other little things that keep a community thriving in the winter months.
Guess you geniuses didn’t take a basic economics course before picking up hockey management as a hobby huh?!
