The Death Pool – The New Owner Of The Muskegon Lumberjacks Is…

Ummmmmmmmm yeah, well about that new owner for the Muskegon Lumberjacks.  You know, the one looking to come in a save the team financially because the current owners have realized they are losing an ass load of money in Michigan and they filed bankruptcy in New York?

Well multiple sources are telling us that the new owner, is really a “maybe” new owner.  But that person has been identified as Dan Israel, one of the owners of ASI Paving based out of Detroit.  If the name Israel rings a bell its because of Ben Israel heading off to Colorado College this year.

Anyway, looks like Dan Israel and his ownership of the Lumberjacks is contingent on the team reaching a new long term lease with the City of Muskegon.

Ummmmm yeah, well if negotiating tactics are an indication of how long a lease will be, I wouldn’t expect too much.

See it looks like the lease terms proposed by the Lumberjacks to the City of Muskegon were so out of whack that the City basically told the team to stick their proposal up their ummmm back sides.

Things like next to nothing rent, all concession sales, take the ice when ever they want, and just about every other ridiculous thing you could imagine was a part of the Lumberjacks proposal.

Ohhhhhh snap, I almost forgot…….they also wanted the city to buy a bunch of “Gold” level season tickets as part of the lease!

Yep, give us the building, give us concessions, give us all the advertising, we are going to keep all the money, and we want you to buy season tickets!  Are you kidding me?!!!

Who the hell came up with this proposal?  Who ever it is, they need to be fired not right away, but like yesterday.  Clearly someone is off their medication when writing something like that.

So, Dan Israel, you are either the most inexperienced arena lease negotiator hockey has ever seen, if the lease proposal was yours, or you have the biggest moron possible writing your lease proposal and business plan.  Either way, have you ever heard the saying that goes something like…..A fool and his money?

At least its a little better than the first proposal when they asked the city to put over a million dollars into LC Walker Arena and then sell it to them for next to nothing.  Word is that next to nothing really was next to nothing as in for one dollar.

So yeah, no one knows what Mr. Israel is doing now.  No one knows if he has actually bought the team, or if he is reconsidering now that a lease longer than one year is not likely to happen.

Think this organization can screw up a market more than they have?  I don’t know, but I wouldn’t bet against it.
