Gold Miners derail Express

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a goal and two assists from Brayden Stortz to help propel them to a 5-1 victory over the Espanola Express Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Stortz got the Gold Miners going with an early power play marker 2:24 into the contest.

He then helped set-up Joel Fortin 5:33 into the second to put the home side up by a pair.

Espanola got on the board before the middle frame was complete thanks to Express captain Cameron Anklewich.

Kirkland Lake put the game away in the third though with tallies less than five minutes apart from A.J. Rupert, Marc Antoine-Arseneau and Jesse Houlton, with the latter pair coming during man advantage opportunities.

Shots on goal favoured the Gold Miners 33-26 with Tyler Mazzcato picking up the win and J.P. Sabourin the loss.
