NAHL Expanding To Bossier – Shreveport In 2016

Two years ago I had several conversations with NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld regarding league expansion and potential markets.  The top market I proposed to him was Bossier-Shreveport Louisiana.

Today, the NAHL is confirming that they will indeed expand to the Bossier-Shreveport market.

The announcement came Thursday during a press conference with Encompass Sports and the State Fair of Louisiana.

The return of the once proud Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs is now a certainty and not simply an idea, or hope in the minds of many area hockey fans.

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs formed in 1997 as a Central Hockey League team, created a dedicated following, but ceased operations in 2011 following that season’s President’s Cup Championship citing lack of season ticket sales.

The Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks ABA basketball team occupied the Hirsch Coliseum until this past summer when they moved away from Shreveport, freeing up the Mudbugs’ former home to host hockey once again.

Look for more information on the Mudbugs as they move forward re-establishing their brand for next season.
