Rock stun Canadians with 6-goal 2nd in win Saturday

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – The Timmins Rock stormed back from a three-goal deficit by striking six times in the second period to pull out a 6-3 come from behind victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Chelmsford Arena.

It was all Canadians in the opening 20 minutes as the home side grabbed a three-tally cushion after one period of play.

Matthew Neault put Rayside-Balfour in front 7:17 into the contest with his 12th of the season.

Danny Lepage made it 2-0 five and a half minutes later as he collected his 15th overall in 2015-16.

Down a man the hosts went up by three as Logan Lefebvre struck shorthanded at 18:06.

Aaron Kerr started the Timmins comeback 7:51 into the middle session as he made it 3-1.

Special teams saw the Rock pull to within one as Jordan Rendle banged in his 21st goal during a man advantage opportunity.

Kerr would tie it at 11:07 and then finished off a hat trick with the eventual game-winner 79 seconds later.

The Timmins attack kept coming as Bain Cunningham made it 5-3 a half minute later and chased Canadians starter MacKenzie Savard in favour of Jessie Morin the rest of the way.

Cunnigham greeted Morin with a power play marker at 14:01 as the Rock finished off their six-goal outburst in a span of six minutes and 10 seconds to round out the scoring.

Zachary Kercz dished out three assists for the visitors while Ryan Kerr and Ryan Theriault added two helpers each.

Logan Ferrington made 18 saves to pick up the win despite being replaced by Devon Debastos early in the third period.

Savard suffered the loss giving up five against on 26 shots with Morin stopping 15 of 16 in relief.
