Timmins tops French River 8-3

TIMMINS, Ont. – Tristan Salesse scored three times and added an assist as the Timmins Rock topped the French River Rapids 8-3 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday evening at McIntyre Arena.

Zachary Kercz put the Rock up 1-0 a minute and a half into the contest only to see Brennan Kelly knot the affair at 1-1 at 4:29.

Timmins tacked up two more before the first was finished to go up by a pair as Salesse and Joe Olson both found the back of the net.

Caleb Rich brought the Rapids to within one 27 seconds into the middle stanza, but the Rock responded with tallies from Salesse, Bain Cunningham and Andrew Green to take a 6-2 cushion into the third.

Salesse completed his hat trick at 3:03 of the third while Green added another midway through the session.

French River got one late, via the power play, to round out the scoring as Rich notched his second of the night and 17th of the season.

Landen Matechuk doled out three assists to aid the offensive cause for Timmins with Jordan Rendle, Ryan Kerr and Nicholas Hautanen adding two helpers apiece.

Logan Ferrington made 31 saves to record the win for Rock.

Zach Mills saw 45 shots fired his way in defeat for the Rapids.
