New CHL Opens Ownership Application Period

The Amateur Athletic Union – United Hockey Union’s new Free To Play CHL is opening the new ownership application period today.

The application period is structured in two phases.  The first phase is open to existing AAU – UHU team owners, and the second phase is open to new owners regardless of affiliation with AAU – UHU or any other sanctioning body.

“Currently, we have six teams.  All six have an experienced ownership and management team.”  Said Cory Herman President of the CHL Board of Governors  “We began this process roughly six months ago, yet informal discussions began a year ago when another Free to Play league approached our ownership groups to join their league.  We decided we were stronger through self governance, in smaller more familiar relationships, with less overhead.  Based on that, we came together with a plan and made it happen.”

“From the beginning, our discussions were based upon the concept of “quality over quantity”.  And using that basis, we have started with six, and will take a conservative approach to all expansion applications.”  Said Casey Bradshaw Vice President of the Board of Governors  “We want highly motivated partners who have the same belief system that we do in that respect.  In the end, it will be the quality of play and not the number of teams that determines the success of the players in their pursuit of their NCAA and NHL dreams.”

“As a board, we are looking forward to the process.”  Said Lori Miller Owner of the Ogden Mustangs “This will be a process that moves forward methodically, based upon systems designed to only see those new members approved once meeting very specific benchmarks.  We are excited about the process and meeting potential new partners.”

The CHL is the first foray for AAU – UHU into the Free to Play market.  Having a Free to Play league, offers players from around the world, more choices.  Choice, and the freedom to exercise that choice is one of the principals that AAU – UHU have been founded upon.  The CHL looks forward to 2017 and having the opportunity to assist players in gathering information to make an informed choice.
