Anyone who reads TJHN on a regular basis knows that we got no forgiveness for sexual predators. No breaks will ever be given here for scumbags who violate our mom’s, sisters and daughters.
Everyone who reads also knows that we have preached about the sexual deviant subculture that has been in hockey for decades. Not that hockey is alone, but its what we know, so its what we write about.
This week, finally another sexual predator got what he had coming to him in an Ontario court room. Nearly two years after being charged, but at least he wasn’t given a slap on the wrist.
Former Windsor Spitfires forward Ben Johnson was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday.
Johnson, who is now 22, was convicted in early September of raping a then 16-year-old “near comatose” girl in the bathroom of Windsor nightclub in 2013. The assault occurred when he was 18 and still playing in the Ontario Hockey League.
That’s right, it took 4 freakin years pretty much for this guy to see justice! Seriously, how screwed up is the Canadian justice system?
“You violated her. You injured her both physically and mentally,” Justice Kirk Munroe told the former Windsor Spitfire. It was “forcible and criminal.”
The former Michigan Mr. Hockey player that represented Calumet High School, was a developing young hockey player who had signed a two way deal with the NHL’s New Jersey Devils after they selected him in the third round of the 2012 NHL entry draft.
Ummmmmmm yeah, well, that NHL contract is now gone.
So now what? Does any team use Johnson as a cautionary tale when giving a player orientation? Shit, does anyone use any of the other players who have these legal issues?
Instead of simply telling young men its not right to do, when is a real education program going to be developed? But what do I know, I mean, it wasn’t my sister the guy raped. Why should you care, it wasn’t your sister either. Yeah, lets all take that attitude, well until it is your sister.
