The Death Pool – Special Report – No Half Shields In Ontario Next Season At Junior Level

Ummmmmm yeah, so maybe someone decided they wanted to cut down on some stitches, and trips to the dentist next year. Maybe some people wanted to lower insurance costs at the same time as actually appearing to give a shit about player safety?

“With all players wearing full facial protection in all Junior categories, the OHA is confident that serious facial, and dental injuries will be greatly reduced from our game and the Association will be able to provide a safer environment for player development.”  Said Karen Phibbs, President of the Ontario Hockey Association

Yep, so that means the OJHL, CCHL, NOJHL, SIJHL, the GOJHL and every other junior league in Ontario will be going back to full cages.

So how’s that for a swift kick in the sack for all the boys who want to wear halfies.  Seriously though, I know a lot of parents are thinking “its about damn time”.

I never understood why anyone wanting to play NCAA hockey would want to wear a half shield just to go back to a full shield later.

I do wonder how this is going to effect the Ontario Hockey League players who are sent down for some seasoning.  Or those who are bumped as an over age player who need a place to play their final junior season.

Ohhhhhhh shit.  What about those two pesky Canadians that can now go to the USHL as non import players?!?!?  I have a feeling the USHL might have just made picking those players up a little bit easier in Ontario.  Thank you cards are already in the mail I bet.

Its not even silly season yet and we got us some crazy shit going on.
