Amarillo wins tough contest against Corpus Christi, 5-4

The Amarillo Bulls and the Corpus Christi IceRays were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Amarillo made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-4.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Matt Sieckhaus‘s goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

 

The Bulls were sparked by Sieckhaus, who tallied one goal and one assist. Sieckhaus scored 16:42 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Amarillo. Mike Davis provided the assist.

In a losing effort, Corpus Christi was led by Rudy Sulmonde, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Sulmonde scored the first of his two goals at 4:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. Nick Monfils assisted on the tally. Sulmonde’s next tally made the score 4-4 with two seconds left in the second period. Emil Romig provided the assist.

The defense for Amarillo played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. With 42 shots on target during the contest, the Bulls exceeded the 31.6 shots they average per game this year.

Amarillo additionally got points from Tyler Rostenkowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Omar Mullan, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Davis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Tyler Gernhofer also scored for Amarillo. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were Geoff Fortman, Hampus Gustafsson, and TJ Sherman, who contributed one a piece.

Corpus Christi also got a goal from Caleb OBrien as well. In addition, Corpus Christi received assists from Michael Economos, who had two and Jalen Schulz and Brandon Smith, who each chipped in one.

Amarillo took out Collin Delia after he had made 16 saves and installed Paul Berrafato in goal, where he finished with six saves and the win. The Bulls totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The IceRays’ Ben Myers stopped 37 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Corpus Christi totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
