Boys Select 16: Day Four Recap

Shootouts: After Team Gold topped Team Royal Blue in the camp’s first shootout on Friday evening, Team Gold went to the extra frame again on Saturday. This time, however, Gold was on the losing end, as Team Black completed a thrilling 6-5 victory at their expense.

Division Races: The race for division titles will go down to the wire today, as Team Columbia Blue and Team Kelly Green enter the final day of tournament play with identical 4-0 records. Columbia Blue holds a sizable advantage in goal differential, which is the tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Team Gray and Team White are battling for the top spot in the National Division with Team Orange and Team Gold still within striking distance.

Scoring Race: After a pair of multipoint performances Saturday, Jonathan Bendorf (Team Columbia Blue) and Brannon McManus (Team Kelly Green) are tied for the camp scoring lead with nine points in four games.

Did You Know: Team Orange coach Doug Janik was a member of the inaugural USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program team in 1996. Janik, a defenseman, went on to skate 190 games in the NHL and scored 19 points while compiling 154 minutes in penalties.
