BRATISLAVA CAPITALS SWEEP OPENING WEEKEND WITH DOMINANT 7–0 SHUTOUT OF ŁÓDŹ LEGION

Capitals finish inaugural EUCHL opening weekend undefeated, outscoring Legion 14–2 across two road victories

The VSM Bratislava Capitals made an emphatic statement to open the European Union College Hockey League’s inaugural season, shutting out Łódź Legion HC 7–0 on Sunday to complete a perfect opening weekend on the road.

Following Saturday’s 7–2 victory, Bratislava returned to the ice Sunday and delivered an even more convincing performance, blanking the Legion while adding another seven goals to its opening-weekend total.

The two victories give the Capitals a 2–0 start to the 2026–27 campaign, with 14 goals scored and just two conceded across the weekend.

FROM OPENING-NIGHT WIN TO SUNDAY SHUTOUT

Saturday’s season opener saw Bratislava overcome an early deficit before pulling away for a 7–2 victory. On Sunday, the Capitals left no doubt about the result, combining another explosive offensive performance with a defensive effort that kept Łódź off the scoreboard entirely.

The seven-goal margin highlighted the Capitals’ ability to generate consistent pressure over consecutive games, while the shutout provided a strong finish to the team’s first weekend of regular-season competition.

Winning twice on the road to begin a new league campaign is an important early achievement for a Bratislava team representing VSM Bratislava and City University of Seattle.

A PERFECT START FOR THE CAPITALS

The opening weekend delivered an ideal result for the Capitals, who now return from Poland with two victories and considerable early momentum.

Bratislava’s weekend production tells the story:

  • Record: 2–0

  • Goals scored: 14

  • Goals allowed: 2

  • Goal differential: +12

  • Sunday result: 7–0 victory over Łódź Legion HC

The back-to-back wins also provide an early foundation as the Capitals look to establish themselves among the leading contenders in the EUCHL’s first season.

BUILDING MOMENTUM IN THE INAUGURAL SEASON

The Capitals’ successful opening weekend is an encouraging beginning for a program built around the combination of competitive hockey and university education.

The EUCHL was established to create opportunities for North American and European student-athletes to continue their hockey careers while pursuing higher education. Bratislava’s opening performances have given the program a strong competitive start as the league begins its first regular-season campaign.

With two games completed and two victories secured, the Capitals can now turn their attention to the challenges ahead, knowing they have established an early standard for their inaugural season.

The message from opening weekend is clear: Bratislava is ready to compete.

The VSM Bratislava Capitals begin the EUCHL era undefeated, with a pair of road wins and a seven-goal shutout to close out their first weekend of competition.
