Broncos’ graduating netminder Dyck commits to Colgate University

Graduating Swift Current Broncos netminder Reid Dyck has announced his commitment to Colgate University.

The 21-year-old from Winkler, Man. recently completed his WHL eligibility after five seasons with the Broncos.

He’ll join the Colgate Raiders for the 2025-26 season.

“With new rules of CHL players allowed to play NCAA, it gives guys a lot of options, which is really exciting, and prolongs our careers a bit,” Dyck said. “For me, it’s a great school and the degree can set me up for life there and I’m excited to get down there and see what College Hockey is all about.”

Swift Current drafted Dyck in the third round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. He went on to play 153 regular-season games in Speedy Creek.

The 6-foot-4, 197-pound goaltender closed his WHL career with a 71-67-6-2 record, a 3.51 goals-against average, an .892 save percentage and six shutouts.

He was named a WHL East Division Second Team All-Star in 2024 as a career-best 25-7-2-0 season that saw him post a 2.70 GAA, a .911 save percentage and two clean sheets.

Dyck also became a fan favourite known for his acrobatic highlight-reel stops.

“Cheers junior hockey,” Dyck posted on social media. “Thank you, Swift Current, for the last 5 years and all the great memories that came with being here. Thank you to all the coaches, teammates and support staff for all you’ve done to help me along the way. Thank you to all the fans who showed constant support over my career. To the Olferts, no words can show how grateful I am for you opening your home to me and letting me become a part of your family. Thanks for having me, Speedy Creek!”

The Boston Bruins selected Dyck in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Dyck was a key part of helping Swift Current reach the WHL Playoffs in 2024 for the first time since winning it all in 2018.

He helped sweep the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Round One and held the Broncos in tight against the eventual champion Moose Jaw Warriors in Round Two.
