Calgary, Alta. – The Calgary Hitmen have signed 2006-born forward Ethan Merner to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Merner was drafted by Calgary in the fourth round (80th) of the 2021 WHL Prospects draft. Since then, the forward from Kelowna, BC has played the past few seasons in the BCHL, most recently with the Langley Rivermen. Merner finished the 2023-24 season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, registering 42 points (23g,19a) in 65 games played. With the Langley Rivermen, he has accrued 18 points (12g,6a) in 30 games played this season.

Merner has joined the Hitmen in Calgary and is available to play this weekend. The Calgary Hitmen have also reassigned Koy Funk, Kale McCann and Easton LaPlante to their respective clubs this week.
Calgary returns to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a pair of weekend games welcoming the Saskatoon Blades for a Friday, Jan. 10 contest at 7:00 p.m. before hosting the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 p.m. Not only will it be another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential, but also the Hitmen’s 30th Birthday Bash.
