Celebrate The NHL Lockout October 5, 2012 7:23 AM

Yesterday the NHL officially cancelled the first two weeks of the regular season, from between opening night, Oct. 11, through Oct. 24 . The earliest the NHL season can begin now would be October 25th.

The NHLPA has responded with a statement from executive director Donald Fehr:

"The decision to cancel the first two weeks of the NHL season is the unilateral choice of the NHL owners. If the owners truly cared about the game and the fans, they would lift the lockout and allow the season to begin on time while negotiations continue. A lockout should be the last resort in bargaining, not the strategy of first resort. For nearly 20 years, the owners have elected to lock-out the players in an effort to secure massive concessions. Nevertheless, the players remain committed to playing hockey while the parties work to reach a deal that is fair for both sides. We hope we will soon have a willing negotiating partner."

So while these two kids continue to fight over who gets the larger part of the sandbox to play in, TJHN is again pushing "CELEBRATE THE NHL LOCKOUT DAY" on Friday October 12th.

We are asking every junior hockey fan, player and player parent to take at least one guest to a junior game on that day.

If every person thats able takes one person to a game on October 12th, every team would experience a doubling of attendance numbers, and out of that new fans of junior hockey would be created.

For those of us that love the game at every level, from house mites to the NHL, this is an opportunity for us to make a statement that the NHL is not the only show in town.

So, with this thought, we are encouraging everyone to pass around this article via Twitter, Facebook or email. Friday October 12th, 2012 is National Celebrate The Lockout Day.
