Cobourg Cougars to host OJHL Showcase August 1, 2012 7:01 AM
The Cobourg Cougars have been chosen for the second year in a row by the Ontario Junior Hockey League to host this year’s annual Governors’ Showcase.
Last year’s showcase was a tremendous success, and Cobourg will look to build on that success Oct. 12 to 14 at the at the state of the art Cobourg Community Centre.
All OJHL teams will play a regular season game during the showcase. Many NHL scouts have been invited and confirmed as atteneding. NCAA programs will be represented, as well as the Western Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey League
The OJHL once again contracted the number of teams in the league from 27 to 23. This contraction has been planned and implemented over the course of a few years. Beacuse of the planned contraction, the over all level of play has improved, that improvement should make for a great showcase and exciting 2012 season.
The 2012-13 OJHL season will have teams playing within their newly re-aligned conferences, the Northeast and Southwest conferences. Teams will play a 55-game schedule, which will be weighted by conference play only, not divisional.
The season kicks off on Sept. 7 and will end Feb. 23, 2013 with playoffs beginning that week.
