EJHL Reaches Settlement With Would Be USPHL Founders

As TJHN reported yesterday, Four EJHL Representatives Removed From BOG Based On USPHL Moves, the EJHL Board Of Governors were meeting this week to try to reach a compromise with the New Jersey Hitmen, South Shore Kings, Middlesex Islanders and the Boston Junior Bruins as it related to the formation of the USPHL and the continuation of the EJHL as we know it.

A compromise has been reached according to EJHL sources.

The New Jersey Hitmen, South Shore Kings, Middlesex Islanders and Boston Junior Bruins have agreed to remain in the EJHL for the 2013-2014 season.

Part of this agreement requires that the four organizations put the “highest caliber” players on their EJHL teams.  Another component requires that the four teams must seek EJHL approval before playing any games outside of the regular EJHL schedule.  Teams would be free to play non EJHL teams, but only during EJHL showcase events.

Where does this leave the USPHL?  In theory the USPHL could begin play without these four teams in 2013 under the proposed U-20 lable.  Certain organizations have already told their membership that they will play this coming season, but are they willing to do so without the draw of the other four teams?

Will the USPHL submit the appropriate paperwork to USA Hockey before April 1, 2013 for Junior Certification in the 2014-2015 season?  Will the the New Jersey Hitmen, South Shore Kings, Middlesex Islanders and Boston Junior Bruins be a part of that application?  Or, will the USPHL now simply fade away?

TJHN will update this story as more information develops.
