EUCHL Reaches Expansion Midpoint as League Seeks Experienced North American Hockey Personnel

Three prospective university programs have received preliminary approval for the 2027–28 season, while the EUCHL encourages experienced North American hockey professionals to explore opportunities across Central Europe.

October 16, 2026 | European Union College Hockey League

The European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL) has reached the halfway point in its application period for the 2027–28 season, with three prospective university programs already receiving preliminary approval and additional opportunities developing across Central Europe.

As the league prepares for its next stage of growth, it is encouraging individuals with high-level junior hockey, college hockey and organizational experience in North America to become involved in the development of university hockey in Europe.

With applications due by October 31, the coming weeks represent an important period not only for prospective university programs, but also for experienced hockey professionals interested in bringing their knowledge, relationships and expertise to a growing international environment.

North American Experience Welcome

The EUCHL believes that experienced hockey personnel can play an important role in developing sustainable university programs across Central Europe.

Individuals with backgrounds in junior hockey operations, college hockey administration, coaching, scouting, player recruitment, business development and team management are encouraged to explore opportunities to get involved.

North American hockey professionals bring valuable experience in building competitive teams, establishing organizational standards and creating pathways for players to advance their hockey careers while pursuing an education.

The league is particularly interested in connecting with people who understand the North American hockey landscape and see the potential to apply that experience within a European university setting.

Opportunities may exist for individuals interested in helping establish new programs, contributing to existing organizations or taking on leadership roles as the league develops its network of university-affiliated teams.

Three Programs Receive Preliminary Approval

Three prospective university programs have already received preliminary approval for consideration ahead of the 2027–28 season.

The league’s focus remains on establishing programs with a meaningful university connection, access to suitable ice facilities and the management structure required to support a sustainable operation.

As discussions continue across Central Europe, experienced hockey personnel may have an opportunity to contribute to the organizational development of these programs and other prospective teams.

The goal is to build a strong foundation for university hockey, combining competitive opportunities with higher education and international student recruitment.

A New Opportunity for Hockey Professionals

For individuals who have spent years working in North American junior or college hockey, the EUCHL offers an opportunity to apply their experience in an international setting.

Whether their strengths lie in coaching, scouting, recruiting, administration or business operations, experienced personnel can help bridge the North American and European hockey environments while contributing to the development of student-athletes.

The league welcomes conversations with qualified individuals who are interested in becoming part of that process.

October 31 Application Deadline

The EUCHL’s application period for the 2027–28 season closes on October 31, 2026. With the halfway point now reached, the league is encouraging interested universities, prospective program operators and experienced hockey professionals to make contact.

North American hockey professionals with high-level junior or college experience who are interested in opportunities in Central Europe are encouraged to get involved.

As the EUCHL continues to develop, its success will depend not only on the universities and teams that join the league, but also on the experience, leadership and commitment of the people who help build its programs.
