Fighting Falcons Hold Successful Tryout Camp

PORT HURON, MI – The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, completed their second tryout camp of the off-season at Mt. Clemens Ice Arena over the weekend. Nearly 30 players parlayed a successful weekend into an invitation to the team’s Main Tryout Camp in July.

A trio of local players earned the chance compete for a roster spot in July based on their play over the weekend. Forward Bryce VanHorn and goalie Matt Fernandez, who played high school hockey for Port Huron Northern, and Port Huron’s Austin Fetterly, who played for the Lambton Shores Predators of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League have advanced to the Fighting Falcons’ final tryout camp.

Of the 28 players to advance to the final camp, the Fighting Falcons invited 17 forwards, seven defensemen and four goaltenders. The selected players come from high schools, midget major programs and lower-level junior leagues across the country.

The level of play we saw this weekend exceeded our expectations, and we are looking forward to seeing the competition at our Main Camp next month,” said Michael Gershon, Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager.

The players we’ve selected to advance from this camp showed us that they have a lot of what it takes to fit the mold of what we’re looking for at every position, and we’re all looking forward to seeing how they compete with our returning guys, our tenders and our draft picks.”

The Fighting Falcons’ Main Tryout Camp will take place July 26-28 in Mt. Clemens. There will be no charge to the team’s final tryout camp.

The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
