Gold Miners get shut out win

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Marc Audet stopped all 30 shots he faced to post the shutout as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners blanked the Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-0 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

Kirkland Lake got going early grabbing a 2-0 lead before the contest was 10 minutes old on markers by Brayden Stortz and Kameron Shearer with Eskis starter Josh Horner giving way to back-up Dan Davies the rest of the way after the second goal.

It was tight checking the remainder of the opening session as well as the middle stanza as it stayed 2-0 heading into the third period.

In that final frame, the Gold Miners added two more tallies off the stick of Logan Fredericks to round out the night’s scoring.

Maxime Choquette and Kyle Lamont both had two assists each for Kirkland Lake in the victory.

Audet picked up the win while Horner suffered the loss stopping four of six in just over eight minutes of work.

Davies finished with 31 saves in relief for Iroquois Falls.
