Gold Miners roll past Rock

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Buoyed by the continued offensive success from forwards Logan Fredericks and Brayden Stortz, the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners defeated the Timmins Rock 7-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Thursday at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Fredericks began by notching his 46th goal of the season near the four-minute mark of the opening stanza to send Kirkland Lake on their way.

He then helped set-up Andrew Cordssen-David at 6:32 to make it a 2-0 game.

The Gold Miners added another before the first period was complete as Fredericks, along with Blake Anderson, picked up helpers on the 34th tally of the campaign from Stortz, who struck on the power play.

Kirkland Lake then went up 4-0 through 40 minutes as Stortz added his second of the night at 14:55.

Timmins got one back a minute and a half into the third as Tristan Salesse collected his31st goal of the campaign for the Rock.

The Gold Miners countered however and put the game away tacking on the night’s final three tallies to round out the scoring.

Stortz finished off a hat trick at 4:01 before Dalton Anderson and Joel Fortin picked up back-to-back shorthanded markers to round things out.

Fredericks end up with a goal and four assists on the night while Stortz had the three tallies and a helper.

Tyler Mazzocato made 24 saves to register the win for Kirkland Lake and Devon Debastos faced 37 shots in defeat for Timmins.
