Hunter Goes Back To London June 22, 2012 8:44 AM
Dale Hunter is returning to the London Knights. The Ontario Hockey League club announced Tuesday that Hunter will resume his role effective immediately and that his brother Mark will continue his duties as general manager.
Mark Hunter handled general manager and coaching duties when his brother left for the NHL. He guided the Knights to the second OHL championship in team history last month. Mark, with Dale assisting quietly behind the scenes came within minutes of a second Memorial Cup Championship.
Hunter had served as Knights head coach since 2001 before leaving the team last November to accept a head coaching job with the Washington Capitals. He resigned from that position in May.
Dale has the highest winning percentage in OHL history at .691. With the borthers re-united, Mark will resume his role of recruiter, talent evaluator and draft specialist.
The borthers together are a feared combination in the OHL. Dale Hunter has 451 wins in just more than 11 years, if the Knights match their win total from last year – 49 – he will be the quickest in OHL history to 500.
