Jocelyne Lamoureux named Academic All-American

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota junior hockey player Jocelyne Lamoureux has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Women’s At-Large Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lamoureux was named to the second team.

Lamoureux is the first player in UND women’s hockey history to earn Academic All-America honors, and is the 75th Academic All-American in the history of UND Athletics.

The Capital One Academic All-America Women’s At-Large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo. Lamoureux was the lone ice hockey player named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Women’s At-Large first, second or third teams.

Lamoureux was a top-three finalist for the 2011-12 Patty Kazamaier Award as the best player in NCAA women’s hockey and was an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) first-team All-American, becoming the first player in program history to receive either honor. She led the nation in scoring with a school-record 82 points while also establishing UND records for goals (34) and assists (48). A team captain and a Grand Forks, N.D., native, Lamoureux helped UND land its first NCAA postseason berth and was named UND’s Grace Rhonemus Female Athlete of the Year in May.

In the classroom, Lamoureux is a physical education, exercise science and wellness major with a 3.87 grade point average. She was named the WCHA Most Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year, a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, a WCHA All-Academic selection and a was a member of the 2011 Fall Athletics Director’s Honor Roll.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
