Joe Combs Dubuque Fighting Saints Associate Head Coach To Take Rio Grande Head Coach Job?

Win a USHL Championship and the job offers should roll in quickly.

TJHN sources in the USHL are reporting that Assistant Coach Joe Combs of the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL has accepted the Head Coaching position with the NAHL’s Rio Grande Killer Bee’s.

Before joining the USHL’s Fighting Saints, Combs had a successful tenure as the CSHL’s (now NA3HL) Dubuque Thunderbirds  Head Coach.  The NAHL based upon that connection would obviously be familiar with him. Over  five years, the Brantford, Ontario, native led the Thunderbirds to a regular season record of 151-23-4-5 and three Hurster Cup Championships (2007, 2008 and 2009).

The Killer Bee’s are the relocated Wenatchee Wild franchise and have a stock pile of talented players for the incoming Head Coach.  Filing the remaining roster spots through USHL connections and recent draft picks should allow the Killer Bee’s to put a championship calibre team on the ice rather quickly.

While these reports are yet to be confirmed, sources are reporting that an announcement will be made some time this week.  TJHN will update this story as more information becomes available.
