NAHL Saturday Scores: RoadRunners move in into 2nd place

Topeka 4 @ Wichita Falls 3 – For the second straight night, Tyler Andrew had the game-winning goal as Topeka moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the South with a 4-3 win and weekend sweep of Wichita Falls.  Topeka got goals in the 2nd period from Sean Gaffney and Trace Strahle, while Kyle Sharkey and Andrew scored in the 3rd period.  Patrick Yudez, Kyle Bauman and Eliot Grauer scored in the loss for the Wildcats.  Mackenzie Sawyer made 29 saves in the win. Kenai River 0 @ Fairbanks 3 – In front of a sold out crowd in Fairbanks, the Ice Dogs cooled down the Brown Bears with a 3-0 shutout on Saturday and a weekend sweep.  After a scoreless 1st period, Max Birkinbine got the Ice Dogs on the board with assists to Kyle Lee and Nick Hinz.  Lee then went on a tear in the 2nd and 3rd periods as he scored back-to-back goals to make it 3-0.  Fairbanks goaltender Steve Perry made 24 saves for his second shutout of the season. Brookings 3 @ Austin 4 – Two, 3rd period goals by the Bruins were the difference as the Bruins edged the Blizzard in Austin on Saturday, 4-3.  In the 1st period each team had a power play goal as Justin Moody scored for Brookings and John Simonson scored for Austin.  Each team had a goal in the 2nd period as Chris Fischer scored for Austin and Cody Marooney for Brookings.  In the 3rd period, Jay Dickman and Brandon Wahlin had the Bruins goals, while Moody added his second for the Blizzard. Texas 2 @ Amarillo 3 – For the second straight night, a goal in the final minutes of the 3rd period proved to be the difference as the Amarillo Bulls completed a weekend home sweep of the Texas Tornado by a score of 3-2.  Each team scored a goal in the 1st period as Carter Penzien lit the lamp for Amarillo, while Max Shuart scored a power play goal for Texas.  In the 3rd period, TJ Sherman scored to give the Bulls a 2-1 lead, but that was answered by a goal from CJ Reuschlein.  However, just :19 second later after Texas tied the game, TJ Sarcona scored the eventual game-winning goal. Janesville 3 @ Kalamazoo 2 (OT) – Former Jr. K-Wings defenseman Cole Pierce struck against his former team as the newly acquired Jets defenseman scored on the power play in overtime to lift Janesville to a 3-2 win in Kalamazoo on Saturday.  Jets goaltender Brock Kautz made 45 saves in the win.  Janesville led 2-1 after two period, with both goals being scored by Daniel Kucerovy.  Kalamazoo got the game tied at 2-2 with goals from Taylor Burden and Lucas Kohls. Wenatchee 3 @ Johnstown 2 – Boosted by another strong performance in goal by Robert Nichols, the Wenatchee Wild posted a sweep of the Tomahawks with a 3-2 win in front of a sold out crowd of over 3,700 in Johnstown.  It was a game in which Wenatchee never trailed as Max McHugh opened the scoring in the 2nd period.  Jordan Watt tied the game a short time later, but Joe Sullivan answered back for the Wild.  Trevor Stewart added the eventual game-winner in the 3rd period, as Mitch Kontny scored late for the Tomahawks to make it 3-2. Springfield 2 @ Michigan 1 – Stefanos Lekkas was impressive again as he won his second straight start with a 24 save performance as the Jr. Blues posted a weekend sweep of Michigan with a 2-1 win on Saturday.  After a scoreless 1st period, all the scoring came in the 2nd period as Tom Cooney scored a shorthanded goal and Mike Severson added another for Springfield.  Jon Farkas scored the lone goal for the Warriors.  Dillon Kelley made 23 saves in the loss. Minot 0 @ Coulee Region 3 – The Chill got 30 saves from Tim Shaughnessy and a goal in each period as they blanked the Minot Minotauros on Saturday, 3-0.  Cory Lushanko got the Chill on the board in the 1st period with assists to Derek Smith and Sean Lang.  Hunter Anderson made it 2-0 in the 2nd period with assists from Cam Bleck and Kevin Becker.  Mac Jansen scored  in the 3rd period with assists to Brady Riesgraf and James McGing.  Ryan Ruck made 45 saves in the loss. Bismarck 1 @ Aberdeen 2 (SO) – Zach Nagelvoort made 28 saves as the Wings earned a weekend home and home split with the Bobcats with a 2-1 shootout win.  Peter Krieger scored the lone goal in regulation for Aberdeen with assists to Jordan Heller and Justin Parizek.  Stanislav Dzakhov answered back for Bismarck in the 3rd period with an assist to Matt Anders.  In the shootout, Krieger and Colton Kramer scored for the Wings, while Nate Repensky had the lone goal for Bismarck. Port Huron 2 @ Soo 3 (SO) – Paige Skoog made 42 saves to help the Soo Eagles to a 3-2 shootout win and sweep of the Fighting Falcons.  Port Huron led 1-0 in the 1st period on a goal from Dan Dupell.  Soo struck back with two goals in the 2nd period from Sean Murphy and Matt Menta.  Tyler Spezia scored in the 3rd period to tie the game for Port Huron.  In the shootout, Murphy and Robin Hoglund scored for the Eagles, while Vito Aluia had the lone goal for the Fighting Falcons.
