NAPHL Championship Games set for Monday

After three days of intense and exciting competition at the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) Championship Series in Troy, Michigan, the Championship games in the Gold and Silver Divisions of the 18U and 16U age groups are set for Championship Monday.

18U Division

In the Gold 18U Division, the Championship game will feature the Lansing Capitals, who were the 2012-13 NAPHL Regular Season Champions, facing off against the Indiana Jr. Ice.  Lansing defeated the Pittsburgh Viper Stars, 5-4 in a shootout.  Lansing, who trailed 3-0 at one point in the game, got shootout goals from Mitchell Shier and Camren Jorgensen, while goaltender Matthew Macinnis stopped all four Viper Stars shooters in the shootout.  In the other semi-final, the Ice scored four goals in the 3rd period and were led by Wichita Falls tender Evan Okeley, who had two goals and two assists in the 5-2 win.  The Championship game will be played on Monday, February 18th at 11am (eastern).

In the Silver (consolation) bracket, the 18U final will feature the San Jose Jr. Sharks, who finished with a 3-0-1 record in the round robin, squaring off against the California Titans, who advanced with a 3-1-0 record and won the tie breaker with the best goal differential against St. Louis and Pursuit of Excellence. The Silver Consolation Championship will be played on Monday, February 18th at 7:30am (eastern).

16U Division

In the Gold 16U Division, the Championship game will feature the Omaha AAA Hockey Club, who went through the round-robin undefeated and then used four, 3rd period goals to defeat the New Jersey Jr. Titans 6-3 in the semi-final, to advance to the Championship game.  Texas Tornado tender Lawton Courtnall had five points in the win.  In the other semi-final, the Pittsburgh Viper Stars held off the California Titans, 6-5 to advance to the Championship against Omaha.  Forward Adam Alavi had three goals and an assist in the win.  Omaha defeated Pittsburgh in the round-robin, 7-1.  The 16U Championship game will be played on Monday, February 18th at 9:15am (eastern)

In the Silver (consolation) bracket, the 16U final will feature the Indiana Jr. Ice, who finished the round-robin with a perfect 4-0-0 record, squaring off against the St. Louis Selects, who tied with Lansing atop the Silver A pool, but advanced to the final because of their 2-1 head-to-head win against Lansing on Sunday.  The Silver Consolation Championship will be played on Monday, February 18th at 8:45am (eastern).
