The Ninth Annual Scotty Bowman Showcase will take place on Monday April 15, 2013.
Last year scouting at the Bowman Showcase had a greatly increased presence from the USHL and NAHL. This year TJHN is expecting that to grow once again.
Phil Lane a 1992 dob player was fetured at the Bowman as a fifteen and sixteen year old player just a few years ago. Lane has since played one OJHL season, become and NHL second round draft pick, followed by three OHL seasons with the Brampton Battalion before moving on the the AHL this year with the Portland Pirates.
Several other players from this event have gone on to junior and NCAA careers recently.
The first of three showcase games will begin at 6 p.m. with high school juniors from Buffalo and Rochester facing off against one another for the Tim Horton Memorial Cup. In 2012, the Buffalo juniors won the inaugural Tim Horton Memorial Cup.
The second game will take place at 7:30 p.m. between high school seniors from each city. The winner of the second game will be awarded the Scotty Bowman Cup. Bowman will be in attendance to present the Bowman Cup to the winning team. The Rochester seniors won last year’s Bowman Cup, improving to 2-6 in the event’s eight-year history.
The third game will feature players who play prep school or junior hockey, either locally or elsewhere. The junior and senior-year high school-aged players will face off for the Rick Martin Memorial Cup at 9 p.m. Buffalo won the first ever Rick Martin Memorial Cup at last year’s event.
Admission for all three games is just $5.00. If your a hockey fan, or a scout, this is one night you dont want to miss. Some of Western New Yorks finest players will be on the ice.
