European Union College Hockey League launches its regular season October 17, bringing university-based hockey and international student-athletes to the forefront of European sport.
BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA — October 17, 2026 — The wait is over. The European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL) officially opens its regular season today, marking the beginning of another milestone in the development of university-based hockey across Central Europe.
After nearly two years of preparation, recruiting, and anticipation, teams are ready to take the ice and begin competing for league supremacy. The opening weekend signals the start of a new season built around competitive hockey, academic opportunity, and an international student-athlete experience.
The EUCHL provides North American and European players with an opportunity to continue their hockey careers while pursuing university education in Europe. By connecting competitive hockey with higher education, the league is creating an alternative pathway for players who want to develop on the ice without putting their academic futures on hold.
This season also represents an important step forward for the league’s growing university partnerships and its long-term vision of establishing a sustainable college hockey model throughout Europe.
“Today is the culmination of years of work by our university partners, team management groups, coaches, players, and league staff,” said EUCHL President Joseph Kolodziej. “Opening day is about more than the first puck drop. It is about creating opportunities for student-athletes, building a strong foundation for university hockey in Europe, and proving that competitive hockey and higher education can work together.”
With the regular season now underway, attention shifts to the ice. Players will have the opportunity to establish themselves, represent their universities, and compete in a league designed to combine the intensity of North American-style college hockey with the international environment of European higher education.
The EUCHL also continues to encourage experienced North American junior and college hockey personnel, coaches, scouts, and hockey operations professionals to become involved as the league develops its programs and prepares for future seasons.
For players, universities, and supporters, the message is simple: the season starts today.
The puck drops October 17. The next chapter of European college hockey begins now.
