KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Brandon Wolfe scored twice, which included the game-winning marker, and Brayden Stortz had a four-point night as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners doubled up the Timmins Rock 4-2 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Wolfe staked the Gold Miners to the lead with the lone tally of the opening period as he connected on the power play at 11:24.
Timmins pulled level five and a half minutes into the middle session Jordan Rendle beat Kirkland Lake netminder Marc Audet.
Stortz notched his first NOJHL goal at 13:45 of the second to put the home side back on top only to see Mike Norris knock in the equalizer in the waning moments of the period.
Wolfe tucked in the difference maker 4:36 into the third before Joel Fortin iced it with an empty netter with 46 seconds remaining to round out the night’s scoring.
Stortz also dished out three assists for the Gold Miners in an impressive debut for Kirkland Lake.
Audet finished the night with 20 stops to pick up the win with Logan Ferrington saving 31 of 34 in defeat for the Rock.
The teams will now head to Timmins Saturday to wrap-up a weekend home-and-home with a 7:30 p.m. start at McIntyre Arena.
